Distance and Online learning

Today, FLD provides the most demanded modules here to download and for self-learning use.

In the past, several organizations expressed a demand for distance learning to provide access to skills/training to community/social workers in Cambodia and Thailand. FLD responded to it by designing learning modules in different areas (“communication skills”, “Financial Planning” etc). Later on, FLD developed an expertise in online delivery and mixed-mode delivery (combination of online/face-to-face approaches) of these modules and implemented projects in Myanmar and Cambodia, including the training of local online tutors. The modules were also updated, modified to be more user friendly (use of multimedia).

On Demand Training

FLD can also design and implement training “on demand”

Small Projects in Thailand

After its inception, FLD began exploring some specific areas of future activity in Thailand in which a small foundation could make a difference. FLD has hosted staff groups from a a number of community development organisations to some of the very interesting and innovative demonstration sites and project easily accessible from Chiang Mai. Some of these are associated with Thailand’s Royal Projects, others with universities and NGOs. FLD has committed to starting a small scale project that addresses the problem of urban waste, in particular to recycle urban food waste to make a useful organic fertiliser.
Meanwhile, during 2011 FLD established a working partnership with “Philanthropy Connections Foundation’ (PCF) a foundation registered in the Netherlands. PCF supports NGOs and ‘grassroots projects’ in several countries in Asia, and during 2011 assisted FLD to respond to the needs of two small projects in Thailand — providing solar panels for a small community of people displaced from Myanmar and living in a temporary shelter in Thailand, and providing funds to help an orphanage on the outskirts of Chiang Mai badly hit by flooding.

Participatory Community Development
